Social media photo URL trace back bookmarklet

Based on responses I got to a question I posed to reddit, I came up with this bookmarklet below.

Drag it to your toolbar or whatever and when you come across a direct photo URL on flickr or facebook, it should take you back to either the flickr photo page or the facebook user profile (I can’t confirm this latter since I don’t have a facebook account).

Flickr/FB photo traceback

If you have any information on tracing back picasa or tumblr photo URLs, please let me know!

“Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going. The past increases, the future recedes.”

— Haruki Murakami (Dance, Dance, Dance), emphasis mine.

“… I enjoy shopping at Kinokuniya. You may not believe this, but the lettuce you buy there lasts longer than lettuce anywhere else. Don’t ask me why. Maybe they round up the lettuce after they close for the day and give them special training. It wouldn’t surprise me. This is advanced capitalism, after all.”

YouTube URL shortening bookmark

Here’s a URL shortener specifically for YouTube. Drag this link to your bookmark toolbar and then click it when on a YouTube video page. You’ll get an alert with the shortened URL.

Pitchfork 20 : #20 Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights

It’s okay…. … I think the Editors and the National do it better…

Pitchfork 20 : #19 Spoon - Kill The Moonlight

Whatever. And what’s with the weird stereo effect, half the time voices were in my left only.

Pitchfork 20 : #18 Kanye West - Late Registration

This has been the suprise of this project.

I’ve listened to Kanye here and there and mostly liked it. Certainly better than the vast majority of his genre peers in music. But for whatever reason, I hadn’t listened to Late Registration until now. It’s one of those works that gets better with each listen. One observation in particular for me was how deeply personal it felt. Reminded me of early Eminem

Pitchfork 20 : #17 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

It was interesting, it did that meld of old-and-yet-new thing quite well. But it didn’t hit me very deep.

Pitchfork 20: #16 Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

It’s quite a lovely work, and he’s quite a talented songwriter. I can see this deserving a spot on the list.

Pitchfork 20: #15 The Knife - Silent Shout

An interesting echo of a certain sound from the 80s. But it ends up feeling like a novelty.
