Social media photo URL trace back bookmarklet
Based on responses I got to a question I posed to reddit, I came up with this bookmarklet below.
Drag it to your toolbar or whatever and when you come across a direct photo URL on flickr or facebook, it should take you back to either the flickr photo page or the facebook user profile (I can’t confirm this latter since I don’t have a facebook account).

It’s okay…. … I think the Editors and the National do it better…
Pitchfork 20 : #19 Spoon - Kill The Moonlight
Whatever. And what’s with the weird stereo effect, half the time voices were in my left only.

Pitchfork 20 : #18 Kanye West - Late Registration
This has been the suprise of this project.
I’ve listened to Kanye here and there and mostly liked it. Certainly better than the vast majority of his genre peers in music. But for whatever reason, I hadn’t listened to Late Registration until now. It’s one of those works that gets better with each listen. One observation in particular for me was how deeply personal it felt....

It was interesting, it did that meld of old-and-yet-new thing quite well. But it didn’t hit me very deep.

Pitchfork 20: #16 Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
It’s quite a lovely work, and he’s quite a talented songwriter. I can see this deserving a spot on the list.
Pitchfork 20: #15 The Knife - Silent Shout
An interesting echo of a certain sound from the 80s. But it ends up feeling like a novelty.
Pitchfork 20 : #14 Animal Collective -...
Animal Collective has generally been hit-or-miss for me so Merriweather Post Pavilion didn’t light up my radar in 2009 and consequently this was my first listen.
Far and away their best work. There’s less of their characteristic shrieking and maybe that’s something - the tunes are mellower/melodic-er and yet have a wider range than, say, the Panda Bear which kinda fell into...
Pitchfork 20 : #13 OutKast - Stankonia
It was OK. I get the feeling Pitchfork systematically included 1-and-only-1 of each rap subgenre and this one repruhzents the goofy-funky-Southern camp.

Icky Thump was much better because some songs stood out, at least.
Pitchfork 20: #11 - Ghostface Killah - Supreme...
I don’t like rapping that doesn’t match the cadence/rhythm of the music backing because otherwise, what’s the point of having the music, just call it “beat poetry” and be done with it.

Pitchfork 20: #10 - The Avalanches - Since I Left...
This is the first on Pitchfork’s list that would be on mine as well. This wasn’t music that was created so much as captured like some mishmash of radio signals from all over space and time, never to be recreated.

Pitchfork 20: #9 - Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Speaking of consistency … this album almost plays like a single, long song and only if I pay a little more attention do I pick up on the transitions.
Not that that is a bad thing. The music is a wonderous mix of many familiar things that all together comes out sounding different.
Pitchfork 20: #8 - Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun
It’s quite lovely, and consistent (that’s what I’m noticing about the Pitchfork picks - consistency, which I guess is admirable at least, even if I don’t particularly fancy any single work). But I just can’t get passionate about mood music.
I guess I prefer music that puts me in a mood, not matches (or doesn’t match) mine.

Pitchfork 20: #7 The Strokes - Is This It
I was a bit stunned to come to a Pitchfork pick that actually had tunes after such a run of drone-y whine-y tuneless crap. Still, I don’t even know if I think this is the best Strokes album. And while there’s some catchiness, nothing would make my cut.
Pitchfork 20: #6 Modest Mouse - The Moon and...
Float On ruined Modest Mouse for me, and I have to admit that after all these years since I wrote them, listening to this album again wasn’t as distasteful. Still, is emphasizing to me that Pitchfork seems to prefer tuneless songs sung by whiney white guys.
Not one song would make the cut for one of my mix CDs.
Pitchfork 20: #5 Jaz Z - The Blueprint
I don’t know that I can judge properly since I don’t listen to much rap but it seemed a consistent album throughout, with numerous catchy/notable moments. In particular, the most standout track was … Renegade, the one featuring Eminem >_>.

Pitchfork 20: #4 Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
I just don’t get it how such mediocre easy-listening (it’s like Jackson Browne for the 2000s) could garner the #4 spot. Only 1 notable tune out of the whole mix (the title track, essentially - Poor Places) and the rest completely indistinguishable, tuneless, crap.
Pitchfork 20: #3 Daft Punk - Discovery
The first 4 songs are simply brilliant. I can’t imagine a more perfect execution, leading up to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. It meanders a bit after that, I think because vocals drop out and it’s a bit harder to really get into instrumental tracks but then, somehow it’s all made up by epically closing with Too Long.
This is not my usual kind of music, but I can see how...

Pitchfork 20: #2 Arcade Fire - Funeral
Another WTF. While I’d give it a nod over Kid A, it’s still mostly mediocre throughout with (again) the exception of two good songs: Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) and Rebellion (Lies).
Pitchfork 20: #1 Radiohead - Kid A
WTF with Radiohead? I’ve tried to like them forever, given all the critical praise they get. But I give up now. This is not only their best, but the best of EVERYTHING that ANYONE put out in the decade? Really??
The National Anthem and Optimistic were good tunes, but two 3 star songs on an album does not a #1 make…

Life as a Snowman. lame
(written by Miss CadyBelle, so prettily written)
On a cold December day on opposite sides of a snow covered forest, two snowmen were built by the loving hands of small children. Ever so carefully in the snow covered clearings they rolled the snow balls that would become two snowmen. After assembling the three snowballs atop each other the small children began to search for arms, eyes, noses, and...
