Pitchfork 20 : #14 Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Animal Collective has generally been hit-or-miss for me so Merriweather Post Pavilion didn’t light up my radar in 2009 and consequently this was my first listen.
Far and away their best work. There’s less of their characteristic shrieking and maybe that’s something - the tunes are mellower/melodic-er and yet have a wider range than, say, the Panda Bear which kinda fell into monotony.
My Girls was especially infectious, worthy of making my next mixtape.
